… in 24 hours, if we work 8, sleep 8 and 2 we use to move than 6 hours are for “life”. If we can do this so that career to be a source of satisfaction then maybe we will be able to add 8 hours for work on the “lived” ones.
“There is not a good wind if you don’t get the direction you need” Andre Moreau
I will not motivate the need of choosing a career goal and its achievement. It’s not necessary to be a psychologist to realize that choosing the right career is important for at least two points: the satisfaction received from work and the degree of adaptation to social and economic environment.
For this satisfaction, the first requirement is related to the existence of a strong match between needs and personality traits. In other words, the first step is self-knowledge, personal values, expectations of a career and expectations of life. Perhaps this is the most important step which requires honesty to yourself, testing, information, permission to change your mind.
The second step is making a decision. We are humans and we have enormous potential, but still limited physically. Few people can be champions in tennis and chess in the same period of life. Then comes into game an important ability: to choose. To choose a profession always means giving up other options, at least temporarily.
Here may occur a trap, can go into what I like, which will make me give up when the first difficulty arises because in any profession there are things that we don’t like. The alternative that is proposed can help me to stay focused on my career goals, overcoming difficulties and moving towards them, rather than give up these goals, arguing “Anyway I didn’t like what I was doing”.
The third step is about making a strategy, a career plan, the assessment of personal resources, time, financial, assessment of barriers and actions that I need to undertake.
The forth step of updating the strategy is based on internal and external realities. Nobody needs a stunned project. Meanwhile, I need to find a balance between perseverance and update, to be sure I don’t fool myself by giving up the plan when difficulties arise and motivate me to leave it and to “update” myself.
The importance of building a career plan is not only on content, but also acquires the habit of establishing a purpose, plan and take action.
A little math says in 24 hours, if we work 8, sleep 8 and 2 we use to move than 6 hours are for “life”. If we can do this so that career to be a source of satisfaction then maybe we will be able to add 8 hours for work on the “lived” ones.
