Internet and computer addiction is safer than a bad company
The computer is a cool thing! Especially for busy parents. Child is sitting at home before the monitor, clicks softly the mouse, in the evening is not hanging out with questionable friends. Of course, still sitting in one position for a lot time will not bring benefits to health, but it’s better than the street!
It is interesting, and what is my child so enthusiastically engaged about all day long? There are two main classes – computer games and the Internet. But are your they sure their children are not computer addicted? Parents who think this is an absolutely harmless hobby are either genuinely mistaken or deliberately dismissive of his duties in favor of other, more “important” cases.
Psychologists are talking seriously about the growing number of children who suffer in varying degrees of health disorders – computer addiction. It is referred to as a painful condition associated with a violation of psychological and behavioral functions.
Like other forms of addiction, it may suffer from it both children and adults. But adults are independent, while the health of children is under the responsibility of parents.
Symptoms of Internet Computer Addiction in Teens
The line between passion and addiction is rather thin. Demarcation criterion is self-control. If the child, after paying particular time to the computer amusements , shuts down the computer and does other things, do not worry. Your son (or daughter) takes the computer as an actually tool for leisure and work, his not computer addicted.
It is quite another thing, if in favor of “iron friend” the child forgets about school and other activities, replacing the live chat for many hours of shooters, he may not to get away from that alone.
How parents should act if a child is computer addicted?
What should parents do in this situation? The first thing that comes to mind – not even close to allow approach to the computer. Alas, it is likely that this decision will follow depression, the child can be completely shrink into himself, in spite of, and deliberately leave the school, completely isolate himself from their parents.
Tough restrictions, abuse and morality were never effective methods of education. The child does not understand that he was on the verge of a serious mental disorder like computer addiction. For him, the ban is the usual denial of pleasure, the source of the ban – an evil to be cured, or at least sidestep.
It is hardly possible to offer one hundred percent effective way to combat computer addiction in children. You should talk with your child of your feelings and anxiety. To some extent, concerns of parents, the people whom the child trusts, will serve as a deterrent.
But one conversation is not enough. If we do not propose to replace with another hobby, not to fill a vacant niche, sooner or later everything will return to its original place. Think about what interests your son or daughter has? Offer them training in the sports section or the circle, take free time, more often communicate with the child on any occasion.
Ways to protect children becoming computer addicted
Struggling with addiction is difficult, it is easier to prevent its occurrence. In order to protect your child to become computer addicted, his employment with the computer must be constantly monitored by his parents.
- Do not place the computer in the children’s room, only in those areas where adults are often found, to be able to unobtrusively monitor how often and for what the child uses the computer.
- Make sure the child does not “flirt” with one game, control the time spent at the computer as a whole.
Where the parents are paying enough attention to children, they rarely need to hide from the indifference of the closest people, in the virtual world.
