The family of Sigmund Freud, the famous psychoanalyst, left Austria and Germany in the 1930s and went to England and the United States. Several of Sigmund’s descendants have become well-known in different fields.

Sigmund Freud himself was the eldest of 8 children of Jakob and Amalia Freud. Sigmund’s sister Anna married Ely Bernays, the brother of Sigmund’s wife, and their son Edward Bernays went on to be major influence in modern public relations. Sigmund’s wife, Martha, was the granddaughter of Isaac Bernays, a Chief Rabbi in Hamburg.
