Occult Practices of the Ancient East - meditation technique
Can we consider meditation as an occult practice? This is a really difficult question. On the one hand, there are no rituals and spectacular spells - all the action takes place in consciousness, and an observer sees only a man, frozen like a statue of Buddha. On the other hand, the meditative practices lead to a spiritual breakthrough, inspiration and sometimes even the development of certain occult powers. No wonder many Oriental mystics are teachers of esotericism, they recommend their students to learn meditation techniques. In a well-known mystic and occultist, there are also included some meditation exercises.
The enthusiasm of newcomers is quickly fading, and many drop out of practice in meditation, after two - three weeks of classes. This is because this is the mentality of Western man is to get everything at once. In the east, the approach to the techniques of meditation is completely different - so a student trusts his teacher that meets all its requirements for many years, even if he does not see any real results. Meditation works very subtly, transforming the consciousness gradually, without noticing the person.
The authors of many books on meditation for beginners recommended to keep diary studies, which should bring all their observations, feelings and achievements. But it did not have benefit in this approach – the need to perform record makes the meditation a routine, moreover, there is no desire to read them. Through the diary of any technique meditation becomes senseless.
Before you begin to engage in meditation, it is necessary to determine why this is necessary, at least to not throw everything in a couple of weeks, because of “no effect”. Those who wish to develop, thus, the ability of clairvoyance or telepathy, should not expect brilliant results at the end of the month – the other. Such a development may require years of training – it all depends on persistence and natural inclinations of the individual. However, properly chosen technique of meditation will bring significant benefits and in a much shorter period.
Why to practice meditation?
For Westerners meditation technique and relaxation techniques that were used for medicinal purposes, to some extent are identical. But relaxation is not itself meditation, but only her first stage – the complete relaxation of body and mind. The effectiveness of relaxation increases if a person managed to banish from his mind any thoughts. Relaxation leads to a decrease in the concentration of cortisol – the hormone responsible for stress. This explains its beneficial effects on the human nervous system. And yet, relaxation techniques can not replace a full meditation that has a positive impact on bio-energy of the person and his spiritual development.
Oriental people tend to contemplation that pandered to the development of meditative practices. The mention of the techniques of meditation and relaxation techniques can be found in almost all religious books. Its main purpose is to improve the person’s character and his worldview. It may seem boring to anyone who wishes to acquire supernatural abilities and dreams of all sorts of miracles, but that person does not understand what he was looking for. After all, consciousness forms the idea about the world, but by changing his mind, it change also his world. With regards to magical abilities, they are developed in the process of meditation by themselves – witness the practice of Indian yogis.
Achieving the state of Samadhi is the ultimate goal of meditation practice of Raja Yoga. This state of consciousness, is reaching the people who fully disclose its spiritual potential. Someone who has experienced the state of samadhi are no longer interested in astral flight, the mysterious magical rites, the achievement of power, wealth and other human desires. But this does not mean that the life of an enlightened man (one might say of the Buddha) is empty and not interesting. On the contrary, according to the beliefs of Indian Yogis, an enlightened person has limitless possibilities of self-realization, and what awaits him, surpasses the most intimate human dreams and ideas of paradise, nirvana, etc.
Relaxation techniques or closer to practice. Where to start?
In order to practice meditation, it is not necessary to apply to achieve the state of samadhi. Mages have resorted to meditation in order to concentrate their forces to prepare themselves for the upcoming ritual. Technique of meditation has a beneficial effect on health status and ability to accumulate also further use of bioenergy (in India it is called prana). Beginner should start with the simplest of exercises.
Relaxation techniques are an effective tool for relaxation, “a traditional posture for meditation is considered to be a lotus or half lotus, but for Europeans, all these cross-legged posture may seem hard, so for exercise should be taken a position which does not cause discomfort. You can sit on a chair or chair, arms should lie on your lap, palms up, and back on the possibility should be kept straight.
Closing your eyes during the exercise, or leaving them open – it’s a private matter. Westerners tend to close their eyes and in the east it is believed that they should cover half – it allows you to concentrate and not be distracted by mental images created by the brain. Meditation is not mathematics, there is no need to strictly adhere to all rules.
If in the process of meditation head involuntarily leaned to one side or arm fell to your feet, then you need to leave everything as it is. In order to take the original position, you will need to break concentration, which will need to start all over again.
Concentration must not tire. To banish from the minds of all thoughts, do not fight with them and exert willpower. A more effective way is to celebrate all arising in the mind of thoughts, but do not let them inspire you. Thoughts must come and go, and the concentration must be maintained. By the way, it is difficult to achieve concentration, prepare for a prolonged struggle you’re your conscience. For this will help relaxation techniques.
Please note that for the first time the body will do its utmost to resist your efforts to do meditation. This resistance can be expressed in different ways – as a desire to get up and drink water, scratch your back, etc. Feeling is desire, you should ignore it, then at some point it will completely disappear.
Meditation technique – first exercise
Choose a time when no one will disturb you, turn off the phone, cover the blinds. It should be creates conditions for full concentration. Initially, this is particularly important with time you will not have to be so carefully prepared for classes.
Sit on a chair, sofa or armchair in such a way as to not feel the slightest discomfort. Try to relax and not think about nothing. This phase is called the relaxation exercises, and it usually takes no more than five minutes. But you should not check the clock, as soon as you feel comfortable you can begin the second phase.
There are various relaxation techniques based on visualization techniques. You can imagine yourself on the beach, in a Buddhist temple or just a place where you feel good and comfortable. This is followed by alternately to pay attention to different parts of the body and relax them completely.
The purpose of the first exercise is to focus on your breathing and try to banish from the minds of any thoughts. This is the first step, which allows understanding what the meditation technique is. Count each of your inspiration or expiration and you may not think about anything. If during exercise you were distracted and lost count, you must start all over again. Exercise can be considered over when you count to a hundred.
During the first lesson may appear quite interesting effects – a sense of complete lack of body or, conversely, a sharp increase in its size. This should not scare – is just the mind that adapts to the new activity. But do not wait for special unusual sensations that may or may not occur. By themselves they mean nothing, and are not a sign of successful meditation.
After completing the first exercise, there should be a couple of minutes to sit quietly. Do not be upset if at the first attempt you will not be able to perform all – focus is one of the most difficult tasks of practical magic. The concentration requires to perform any magical acts, so you should pay due attention to the exercises for its development.
Most meditation practices are quite complicated for beginners – they require a high degree of concentration or visualization (mental representations of different objects). You should not force the issue – only after mastering the basics, you can proceed to the next step.
Once you have done several times above exercise, you are ready for contemplation. This is a very interesting technique of meditation, which requires a completely different approach. Its meaning is to make your see the selected object directly, without any verbal description. When a person looks at something (chair, tree, flower, car, etc.), his mind is trying to describe the subject of language in different categories. Reason tells us that the subject is beautiful / ugly, big / small, red, green, blue, etc., etc. Contemplation, by contrast, lets you see the subject as he is, without descriptions, labels, and exaggerations.
The subject for contemplation can be anything – a morning sunrise, the tree in the yard or a mountain of dishes in the sink. The main thing is the contemplated subject did not arouse any emotion, initially, you should choose something neutral – stone, flower, etc. I do not recommend using the TV for this purpose – so many contemplate it from morning to evening.
Exercise should be started with relaxation. Use these relaxation techniques, which can achieve complete relaxation. Then you just have to look at only the selected object. Just watch, and do not succumb to the attempts of reason to speak the language of categories. Ideally, you should ensure the total absence of thoughts, allow yourself to forget the name of that object, which you contemplate. The first few exercises should not be too long – 15 minutes is sufficient. But do not watch the time, finish the exercise if you wish.
