The interpretation of dreams according to Freud
Once you have doubts about the suitability of Freud’s theory, refer to this example, highlight the imagery and symbolism of Freud.
This is a dream, narrated by middle-aged man after a course of family therapy:
“On the back yard I dig the pond to catch fish there, I sit on the shore of the pond and passing my hand through the grass my hand feels the slippery body of a snake.
In horror, I throw off away from the reptile. The snake crawls. I catch a couple of small fishes, similar and, at the same time, differing from each other. I’m ashamed that I caught them. They look at me, I’ve seen in their eyes, some thought. I wake up. ”
This translates into an interpretative language of Freud the dream will be treated as follows: digging a pond – an indication of the womb or female genitals. Snake – a phallic symbol. Fear of a snake and discarding it in the direction indicated the presence of a certain percentage of the fear of phallic power. Little fish – are the epitome of sperm or her product.
That man realized how rich he has: he has a wife and family. However, his sexuality and laceration on various occasions often is his worst enemy, appearing in the most unexpected thoughts and feelings. He would like to get rid of these experiences in real life, moreover, he understands that most of these suffer torments his children.
It is important to understand that the dream serves as a statement of the present rather than as a wish for the future, although sometimes one and the same dream may be treated as a present and future simultaneously.
